Recital
Sunday 30 july – 21h00Basilique Notre-Dame
Opened with a tribute to Kader Hassissi by one of the most faithful ensembles to the Beaune Festival, this 2023 edition will close with a recital by another of his great friends who wanted to dedicate the evening to him, Andreas Scholl. The love story between the German countertenor, one of the most famous in the world in his tessitura, and the Beaune public has been going on for many years. He has chosen one of his favourite repertoires, the Elizabethan and English baroque song, from Dowland to Handel, the most British of the Germans. His lute partner, Edin Karamazov, has added some of his own compositions – his forays into the music of our time, including pop with Sting, have been noticed. Together, the two artists distil the infinite variety of these miniatures, whose richness and format are very reminiscent of the later German romantic lieder. Tenderness, despair, desire, anger, madness, hilarity can be condensed into a world during three minutes, as well as responding to each other with subtlety throughout the evening.
